Sarah Palin is a liar

From the Anchorage Daily News:

When John McCain introduced Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate Friday, her reputation as a tough-minded budget-cutter was front and center.

"I told Congress, thanks but no thanks on that bridge to nowhere," Palin told the cheering McCain crowd, referring to Ketchikan's Gravina Island bridge.

Oh, bullshit.

The Alaska governor campaigned in 2006 on a build-the-bridge platform, telling Ketchikan residents she felt their pain when politicians called them "nowhere." They're still feeling pain today in Ketchikan, over Palin's subsequent decision to use the bridge funds for other projects -- and over the timing of her announcement, which they say came in a pre-dawn press release that seemed aimed at national news deadlines.

"I think that's when the campaign for national office began," said Ketchikan Mayor Bob Weinstein on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Weinstein noted, the state is continuing to build a road on Gravina Island to an empty beach where the bridge would have gone -- because federal money for the access road, unlike the bridge money, would have otherwise been returned to the federal government.

It's one thing to change your views on a topic or an issue. It's another thing entirely to flat out lie about where you stand.

I'd expect the media to jump all over this if Palin was a Democrat. Unfortunately, experience shows us that IOKIYAR.

Lindsey Graham -- hypocrite

From Think Progress:

Today on ABC This Week, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) criticized Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) for being absent for so many Senate roll call votes, saying that “Sen. Obama’s been gone more than he’s been here.”

Now I'd cut Obama, John McCain and Joe Biden some slack, because they're campaigning for president and vice president -- I'd expect them to be absent sometimes. Apparently, though, Graham doesn't get irony or hypocrisy. If he did, he would have mentioned that McCain, whom Graham supports, is THE MOST ABSENT Senator. McCain has missed 63.8 percent of the votes in the 110th Congress, Obama 45.5.

People in glass houses, Senator...

Jack Cafferty -- fuck off

Jack Cafferty, concern troll:

The Beverly Hillary-billies come to Denver.

If you look closely this week, you might catch a glimpse of Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention in between appearances by the Clintons. Hillary Clinton is doing her dead-level best to take title to Obama's moment in the sun.

She lost. He won. She and her family will be everywhere...

...It's not like they have been bending over backwards to help Obama get elected. Bill Clinton has barely been polite. He couldn't even bring himself to say he thought Obama is qualified to be president. Now, Bill Clinton is reportedly not happy about the topic of his speech Wednesday night.

Politico.com reports the former president wanted to talk about the economy under President Bush compared to his accomplishments during his term in office. The theme for Wednesday night is "Securing America for the 21st Century." It seems Bill Clinton is forever more interested in reminding us of what a charming guy he was while in office than in acting like one of the leaders of his party and trying to get his party into the White House.

Kind of sad, really...

...Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton owes some big bucks, as in tens of millions of dollars. So if you're at the convention this week and you see her out in front of the hall selling pencils, buy one. She needs the money.

WHY must everyone in the media automatically subscribe the worst motives to the Clintons, even to the point of misstating their words, making up quotes, and even ascribing thoughts and motives to them with no basis in fact?

The Clintons have endorsed Obama. They're campaigning for him. Obama says he needs and appreciates their support.

Why not give the "the Clintons are evil" meme a rest?

I'm back
